New Voices in Classical Reception Studies
new voices in classical reception studiesNew Voices in Classical Reception Studies sits at the forefront of this dynamic and vital area of research. The journal is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive forum for high-quality research and debate in which new and previously under-represented voices and approaches are foregrounded. It is based on the following principles:
- The journal’s central aim is to explore how the ancient world (in its full diversity) is received, reworked and reimagined from antiquity into the present, and to examine the many kinds of relationships -- between texts, objects, and ideas -- that emerge.
- We welcome submissions which demonstrate new approaches to Classical Reception Studies and explicitly aim to expand the field by posing challenging, innovative questions and exploring new theories and methodologies (including those relating to pedagogy), as appropriate.
- Contributions are not restricted to particular chronological periods or geographies, but are expected to explicitly engage with the dynamics of reception. An understanding of ‘Classical Reception Studies’ as a series of connected theoretical and epistemic approaches rather than a clearly defined set of topics or subjects of study is an important aspect of the journal’s work.
- The journal is open to publishing research which challenges the traditional formats of journal articles, such as shorter notes or interventions, or multivocal pieces.
- We undertake to proactively diversify the voices of contributors to the journal by encouraging early career, precarious, and marginalised scholars to work with us, as authors, reviewers, and in editorial capacities, and by offering targeted support and mentoring for all these activities.
- We commit to transparent processes and communication around all of the journal’s activities, and we warmly encourage potential contributors to contact us with ideas, queries, or proposals at an early stage of a project.
